Department of Human Services Star Rating System

The Tennessee Department of Human Services uses a rating system for child care centers in which they give each licensed child care center a report card when they renew their license. we have consistently received 3 stars in each of the areas evaluated since the rating system began in 2001! Child care centers are given from zero to three stars in each of seven different areas:

  • Director qualifications
  • Professional development of teaching staff
  • Compliance history with licensing regulations
  • Parent/family involvement
  • ratio and group size
  • Staff compensation
  • Program assessment (including observation of teachers in the classroom)
  • A final rating of zero to three stars is arrived upon by averaging the number of stars earned in each category. Click here to access the DHS website http://state.tn.us/humanserv/).  Choose Child Care Services from the list on the left and then choose Locate Your Local Child Care Provider from the list in the center and near the bottom.
